Huddly Crew wins Red Dot: Best of the Best Award in Product Design category

Oslo, Norway, Jun 29th, 2023

AI camera producer Huddly continues to solidify its position as an industry challenger, earning yet another prestigious award for its AI-directed multi-camera system Huddly Crew.

The Red Dot Design Award is globally recognized as a symbol of design excellence, with the Best of the Best distinction representing the highest level of achievement, celebrating exceptional design and innovation. Huddly Crew impressed the jury with its “minimalist approach that places the emphasis on the innovative and impressive technology.”

The statement continued: “Meeting rooms often look very chaotic and cluttered. The beauty of Huddly Crew lies in its simplicity. The product is not only very discreet but has also been designed and manufactured to an exceptional standard.”

"This award is another important achievement for Huddly,” commented Huddly’s Chief Design Officer Knut Helge Teppan.“It’s a clear recognition of the excellent and innovative work done by our design and engineering teams every day. We are thrilled that the jury acknowledged our dedication to creating meaningful designs that put the human experience first."

The Red Dot: Best of the Best adds to a series of award successes for Huddly Crew. At InfoComm, North America’s largest AV trade show, it received the official InfoComm Best of Show Award as well as rAVe [PUBS] Best New Technology of InfoComm Award. Prior to this, Huddly Crew was also honored with the iF Gold Design Award and Frost & Sullivan’s New Product Innovation Award, marking it as a leader in both design and innovation.

Minimalist, practical design

Huddly Crew is meticulously designed with a strong focus on simplicity. An easy, plug-and-play setup, coupled with a minimalist, modular design, make this AI-directed multi-camera system an outstanding choice for any modern workspace.

Knut Helge Teppan concurs: “Great design goes beyond aesthetics; it provides practical solutions to real-world problems, with a commitment to excellence reflected in the physical product’s proportions, details, and finishes. Huddly Crew allows users to focus on productive collaboration without being distracted by the technology itself.”

Innovative, superior user experience

True to Huddly’s ethos of addressing real-world challenges, Huddly Crew is specifically designed to enhance engagement and inclusivity in video meetings.

Teppan explains the inspiration behind Huddly Crew: “We aimed to create a TV-like experience for video meetings, replacing the full production crew with a network of cameras and artificial intelligence. Throughout the design process, we collaborated with a TV production team and sought their input to adapt their techniques to fit a video meeting scenario.”

To bring the best of TV and movie production to video conferencing, Huddly Crew features three networked cameras that capture the meeting room from multiple angles. Powered by an integrated AI Director, the system intelligently selects the most suitable shot in real-time, facilitating natural and seamless communication. This innovative approach empowers individuals to express themselves freely during video meetings, fostering an immersive and interactive experience.
