That’s why Top10 Meal Deliveries sought to discover the most commonly misspelled food and drinks - and learnt that internet users across the world have made over 4.5 Millin spelling mistakes when searching food names!

Espresso ranks first, with an average of 490,000 global searches per month for the incorrect spelling of Expresso, with Portugal the guiltiest country. Avocado comes in second with 371,600 combined searches for Avacado and Avacodo.

Brazilians are the top culprits for misspelling Omelette and Cappuccino which rank third and fourth, with 339,000 and 311,000 misspelled searches respectively. With common misspelt searches including Omelet and Capuccino.

UK residents misspell Gnocchi the most, having discovered a grand total of 295,800 average searches made each month globally for the Italian dumplings, with Gnocci the most common misspelling (170,000 average searches globally).

Germans Misspell Zucchini and Mozzarella more than anyone else, with the most common misspellings being Zuchini and Mozerella.

  1. Top10 Meal Deliveries sought to discover the most commonly misspelled foods through global search trend data.

  2. Top10 Meal Deliveries started by collating previous articles and quizzes about the most misspelled foods from Buzzfeed, 967 The Eagle, and Grubhub as well as food names that have appeared in spelling bees from 2010, 2014 and 2015.

  3. 40 food names were extracted for investigation, and Top10 Meal Deliveries input each one into Google analytics provider Ahrefs to discover average monthly searches, as well as sourcing the most common incorrect spellings of the food names.

  4. The data was cleaned and filtered to produce a top 20 list of commonly misspelled foods.

  5. This data is correct as of 20/01/2022 and is subject to change.
