Lake Ontario Crossing on Stand Up Paddleboards Postponed

Toronto, Ontario, June 9th, 2022

The three men who were planning to cross Lake Ontario on Stand Up Paddleboards this June have postponed their trip.

Jeff Guy, Joe Lorenz and Kwin Morris have already successfully paddled Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, Lake Superior and Lake Erie. Lake Ontario represents their final journey across all five Great Lakes and is the culmination of a seven-year quest.

“So many things have to come together for this to be successful and unfortunately things are just not coming together as they should,” said Kwin Morris. “Our biggest issue was the fact that the trip requires two boats to follow along as a safety precaution. We carry an EMT on board, spotters and a film crew.

Unexpectedly our captain for our previous paddles was not able to make it this year because of business commitments and one of the boats we had lined up suddenly had to back out as well. So that and a few other items made this way more challenging than it needed to be. As a result, we will postpone the trip until next year”, said Morris.

“We are disappointed, but safety comes first. We appreciate all of the support we have received for this event and look forward to 2023”, said Morris.

About Stand Up for Great Lakes

It began with a love of water. The group has crossed four of the five great lakes by stand-up paddleboard and has raised more than $80,000 to help raise awareness of the issues facing the Great Lakes. The lakes are under threat. Oil pipelines of questionable integrity, invasive species, sewage leakage, pharmaceutical pollution, agricultural runoff, and those who choose to throw beer cans and cigarette butts wherever they please, the list of threats to these majestic and vital bodies of water is endless. We’re asking others to Stand Up for Great Lakes and provide support and encourage us on this important mission.
